An Interview with Margaret Nelson:
VV: How long have you been a TIR trainer?
Margaret: : I have been interested in TIR, as a client and student, for more than 20 years. I believe that much of the success I have enjoyed in my life can be attributed to the very positive impact of the services I have received as a client of TIR and Metapsychology. Upon retiring a few years ago, as a director of education, I began to study Metapsychology and have achieved certification as both a TIR and LSR facilitator and trainer.
VV: What inspired you to become a TIR trainer?
Margaret: I have been working with and supervising people in my various educational roles, for more than 40 years. In my experience, the effectiveness of TIR techniques is unparalleled. My TIR clients tell me that, after many years of trying other therapies, they are thrilled with the relief and results that TIR has brought to their lives. My training as an educator, mediator and facilitator has prepared me to share this knowledge and experience with those who are committed to helping others. I am so pleased to work with students and help them learn and gain the skills to be TIR and LSR facilitators.
VV: What do you find rewarding about it?
Margaret: The philosophical underpinnings of metapsychology support my learner-centered viewpoint. It is rewarding to offer the tools and participate in the empowerment that occurs when TIR is understood and used effectively. I love seeing clients and facilitators discover and benefit from the tremendous power of TIR. Seeing facilitators and viewers grow and expand their potential is reward in itself! Providing training is such a rewarding effort. I meet 10 new professional students at each of our training workshops. It is enriching to watch their excitement and enthusiasm for this subject grow over the four days of training. As they leave our training centre, many are asking for the advanced training schedule, in order to continue the work they have started.
VV: Are you willing to travel to deliver training, if so under what conditions?
Margaret: Yes. I am keen to meet new people and introduce them to TIR. Generally the conditions are an agreement on time, compensation and location.
VV: Do you have a private practice?
Margaret: I have a small but active practice.
VV: Besides TIR, what other things are you interested in?
Margaret: I am a consultant to educational organizations and to CEO's of school districts. I am a mediator and enjoy this work very much. I am frequently called upon as a speaker, both for educational groups and to introduce TIR to the helping professions. I enjoy swimming, hiking, snowshoeing, Pilates, reading and spending time with friends and family. I love attending live theatre with my children.
VV: Describe your professional background?
Margaret: I have academic qualifications as an elementary and secondary teacher as well as Bachelor of Arts (Laurentian U,) Master of Education (U of Western Ontario), and Supervisory Officer and Mediation Certificates of qualification. I began as a classroom teacher, and continued from there, working as a consultant with classroom teachers. Later I was a school principal, superintendent of schools and program, and then completed my career as Director of Education (CEO) for a school district in southern Ontario. I recently managed a project for a provincial education consortium working with 16 school boards, to improve training opportunities for support staff.
VV: What other courses are you currently teaching?
Margaret:I am busy with the TIR training workshops, offering Traumatic Incident Reduction, TIR – Expanded Applications, and Life Stress Reduction and Case Planning at our training centre, Nelson House, as well as other locations around the province. Besides these, I do some teaching on a course that prepares educators to become supervisory officers.
