Traumatic Incident Reduction:

Expanded Applications

4-Day Professional Training Workshop

Prerequisite

Successful completion of the TIRA- approved Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) Workshop

Overview of the Workshop:

This four day workshop was designed after extensive interviews with graduates and instructors of the original four day TIR Workshop to compliment and expand upon that training.

“TIR – Expanded Applications” consolidates knowledge and skills gained in the first workshop and goes on from there to add an array of new tools to the facilitator’s repertoire.  New methods taught in the course of this workshop will benefit a wide range of clients, from non-psychotic clients who tend to be fragile and overwhelmed to very high-functioning people.

“TIR – Expanded Applications” serves as an ideal preparation for the “Case Planning for TIR and Life Stress Reduction Workshop,” which goes on to introduce a large number of new tools, in-depth interviewing procedure and case planning at a more advanced level.

The “TIR – Expanded Applications Workshop” delivers greatly increased confidence and certainty in using TIR and related techniques.

Continuing Education Credits

This program is sponsored by the Traumatic Incident Reduction Association (TIRA). TIRA is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) to offer continuing education for psychologists, and by the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists (ATSS) to offer credit hours towards certification. TIRA maintains responsibility for the program and participants in all professional disciplines will be provided with documentation of 21 credit hours for use in securing CE credits from their respective licensure boards and/or professional associations.

Course Outline

Section I starts with debugging problem students may have had in the application of TIR, reviewing common areas of confusion, and re-enforcing skills. New questions are provided for use in TIR to improve session effectiveness. This section also expands the student’s knowledge of End Point phenomena and addresses engagement of the client in the work of the session.

Section II gives vital information on how to prepare a non-psychotic client to do TIR when he or she is too fragile or overwhelmed for the demands of TIR at first.  This section also introduces a number of short Unlayering procedures and shows how these work for both case preparation and case progress for both low and high-functioning clients.

Section III explores special applications of TIR such as in cases of long term trauma, addiction, and abusive relationships.  The application of TIR in allowing a client to look at pleasant incidents can be a morale booster.  Future TIR provides a way to reduce charge from traumatic events before they happen, greatly increasing the client’s resilience.

Section IV provides a simple model of case planning for greater success.  Both client and facilitator benefit from the structure of a well done plan to support the work they are doing from session to session.

Section V covers remedial actions to take when difficulty arises in a session or with the client’s overall progress, increasing the facilitator’s confidence and rate of success with TIR.
